Winemaker's Notes

The Herzog winery created their own cult California Cabernet with their Warnecke Vineyard Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines have a classic Herzog label, and while they can be consumed within a year or two of their vintage, they age gracefully. The 1998 vintage was a late harvesting vintage in California as the grapes took longer to ripen on the vines, yielding a higher sugar content when harvested. The wines of the 1998 vintage took longer to show their finesse and beauty. This Herzgog Special Edition Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 1998, over 20 years old, is still holding strong. The bouquet opens with black and blue fruit, blueberries, blackberries and plum leading the way to herbaceous and earthy notes with pepper, cigar box and tobacco in the background.
