Barkan Reserve Chardonnay is from the Barkan Winery, the second largest in Israel. It was founded in 1990, and its head winemaker is Ed Salzberg. The winery moved to Kibbutz Hulda near Rehovot in 2000. Barkan's Reserve Chardonnay is produced using only carefully selected, hand-picked Chardonnay grapes grown in vineyards in the Jerusalem corridor. At the onset of fermentation approximately one third of the juice is separated to complete fermentation in new oak barrels. This portion remains in barrels for 6 months before being blended with the balance of the wine that is tank fermented at low temperatures. The resulting wine is an elegant, complex blend of the buttery character of the barrel fermentation and the clean crisp freshness of mountain grown Chardonnay. It has received several Gold Medals from Chardonnay du Monde.

The Barkan winery is a staple in Israeli winemaking as it has been making wine for over 25 years. The current winery was built in 2000 and with it was built a massive visitor center that rests a half hour from both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Products are packed with coolant during their journey to ensure they arrive in great shape. Meats will arrive frozen or refrigerated. Most of our products are shipped frozen; occasionally, due to a very quick turnaround between when the meats arrive at our freezing and distribution facility and when they are delivered to you, meats may be shipped fresh. Meat that is cold to the touch can be refrigerated for immediate use, or frozen for later use.
