Ten Kosher Wine Fall Faves
- Sep 28, 2018
Welcome to Fall!
The fall season has arrived! As the leaves are changing colors and the cold weather is creeping in, we know you’re looking for the perfect wine to savor at home. We’ve hand selected ten flavorful wines for every palate and taste.
1. Flam Reserve Syrah 2016
Let’s begin with the Flam Reserve Syrah 2016. I love Flam wines, as their entire portfolio is filled with terroir rich, flavorful wines. The winery is a family endeavor as the whole Flam family plays a role in the winery, from the business administrator to the winemaker. I truly admire how the winery doesn't try and do too much but rather sticks to their signature wines, producing fantastic vintages of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet and Noble each year. This specific Syrah is a perfect wine for sitting and sipping by the fire.
2. Psagot Cabernet Sauvignon Single Vineyard 2014
The Psagot Cabernet Sauvignon Single Vineyard 2014 is the flagship wine from this fantastic Israeli winery. It's a cabernet sauvignon picked from the best single vineyard that Psagot has. This wine is aged in oak and sports a whopping 14.9% alcohol content, perfect for those fans of full bodied bold wine. The wine exhibits characteristics similar to a California Cabernet, with it’s deep dark fruit flavors including black currants and blackberries. It has a full body, an oaky mouthfeel and a long tannic finish. Put up a stew, open this wine, decant for two hours, and enjoy!
3. Shiloh Mosaic 2016
When I think about Israeli wines that have stood the test of time and continue to produce great wines each vintage, the Shiloh Mosaic 2016 tops the list. Amichai Lourie produces this high end flagship wine that showcases Israeli fruit, with a sweet oak component that translates into flavors of vanilla and baking spices. The wine is a blend of Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s a full bodied complex wine that is perfect to drink as you watch the leaves fall.
4. Shiran Conductor 2016
The Shiran Conductor 2016 is part of our Garage Winery series that makes us extremely proud. The wine is a blend of Petite Sirah and Petite Verdot, two Mediterranean varieties that grow beautifully in Israel. The grapes are turned into this delicious wine in the home of winemaker Eli Shiran. It shows lovely fruit flavors and will pair perfectly with your Thanksgiving Turkey.
5. Nevo Merlot 2014
The first time that I tasted this Nevo Merlot 2014, I was blown away with the winemaker's ability to create such a flavorful Israeli wine with a controled alcohol content. This Merlot has tons of red fruit flavors, including cherries, raspberries, and even a hint of herbs. It’s a complex wine that lingers on the palate and has a long finish.
6. Dalton Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
Dalton is an Israeli winery that has been around for years and produces a beautiful portfolio of wines. Their different types and styles of wine run the full gamut of flavors and preferences. This single varietal Dalton Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 is full bodied and flavorful. The oak rounds out the flavors and it’s perfect to sip under a blanket by the fire.
7. Casa de Cielo Reserve Carmenere 2017
Chile has absolutely blown up in the wine world, and in the Kosher wine sphere, we are just starting to see it’s amazing potential. The Carmenere is a Chilean grape with dark fruit flavors and a hint of green on both the nose and palate. This Casa de Cielo Reserve Carmenere 2017 makes the perfect treat for a chilly evening.
8. Twin Suns Chardonnay 2016
Chardonnay from California has a very large cult following. It is oaky and buttery, full bodied and ageable. In particular, the Twin Suns Chardonnay 2016 showcases tropical fruit flavors of pineapple and mango, as well as cooler climate flavors like apple and lemon. This white wine is just perfect for the fall!
9. Tulip Espero 2017
Tulip winery is one of my favorite Israeli wineries, both for the story of their winery as well as their fantastic wines. The Tulip Espero 2017 sports a new label, chic and modern with a blend of Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This is a medium plus bodied wine with dark fruit flavors including black currant and black plum, as well as a black pepper spice found in many Israeli Syrahs. The depth and complexity make it a wonderful fall wine to enjoy.
10. Capcanes Peraj Petita 2017
The Capcanes Peraj Petita 2017 is another top wine that comes from Spain. Spanish wines pack a power punch of spice and red fruit flavors. This wine is from the fully kosher Capcanes winery, and consists of mainly grenache. It’s a beautiful option to have with your turkey, butternut squash pie, or really any Thanksgiving dinner staple.
